Smoke near Paris city hall. A fire broke out around 8:45 a.m., Tuesday June 25, in a building on rue de la Verrerie, in the 4th arrondissement, in the heart of the capital. It required a “big intervention” of the Paris firefighters, according to Ariel Weil, the mayor of the 4th arrondissement. Around ten fire trucks were mobilized to fight the flames. “Please avoid the area so as not to interfere with the work of the emergency services”added the elected official on the social network
By mid-morning, a plume of smoke was emerging from the first floor of the building and flames were visible on the second floor of the building, which has six floors. The sector was cordoned off, noted a franceinfo journalist. Staff from the main BHV building, located on the sidewalk opposite the damaged building, gathered in a neighboring building and the department store remained closed.
During the Paris council meeting, Mayor Anne Hidalgo interrupted herself mid-speech, saying she felt “a burning smell”. “It’s the BHVshe clarifiedit’s not city hall.” “We will inform you of what is happening”she concluded.
