Smoke near Paris city hall. A fire broke out around 8:45 a.m., Tuesday June 25, in a building on rue de la Verrerie, in the 4th arrondissement, in the heart of the capital. It required a “big intervention” of the Paris firefighters, according to Ariel Weil, the mayor of the 4th arrondissement. Around ten fire trucks were mobilized to fight the flames. “Please avoid the area so as not to interfere with the work of the emergency services”added the elected official on the social network
By mid-morning, a plume of smoke was emerging from the first floor of the building and flames were visible on the second floor of the building, which has six floors. An initial report shows five firefighters in relative emergency and one missing person, France Télévisions learned from police sources. The stairwell on the 3rd and 4th floors of the burned building collapsed.
