A fire forces the evacuation of 350 students and teachers in Drummondville

A spectacular fire raged at the Paul-Rousseau Vocational Training Center in Drummondville on Monday afternoon, forcing the evacuation of approximately 350 students and staff.

The flames originated in the premises of the welding-assembly program, explained the Center de services scolaire (CSS) des Chênes.

The blaze was particularly violent, as evidenced by videos circulating on social networks.

The fire caused “damage and major breakage of equipment to the building” underlined the CSS des Chênes which will have to carry out a complete analysis of the damage.

Despite the scale of the disaster, no one was injured. The evacuated students and teachers were able to find refuge in the Jean-Raimbault school, located very close to the Paul-Rousseau center.

The students affected were to be contacted by the school to inform them of the procedure to follow in the coming days for their training.

At the same time, the CSS des Chênes pointed out that the fire also disrupted the internet network of several other schools, since many telecommunications equipment is housed at the Paul-Rousseau center.
