“This is the first fire of the season. An astonishing fire, in the middle of winter, in the Médoc. Nine hectares of ferns and pine trees were burned, in Saint-Sauveur, near Pauillac”reports Jean-Pierre Stahl. “Since midnight and a half, on the night of Friday March 3, 30 firefighters have been dispatched to the site, on the Bel Air runway, with six means of fight”says the journalist. “The fire was extinguished in the early morning”adds Jean-Pierre Stahl.

The criminal track seems to be privileged

This fire is one of the consequences of the drought, the region having sorely lacked precipitation. “For more than a month, no drop of rain has fallen on the sector, and this kind of episode could repeat itself in the weeks to come. Last summer, more than 30,000 hectares of forest disappeared in smoke in Gironde”recalls Jean-Pierre Stahl. “The Pauillac gendarmerie has opened an investigation to determine the origin of the incident.
