A fire ravaged 80 hectares of vegetation in the Aude. It was brought under control on Friday June 10, but the firefighters remain vigilant against the risk of recovery.
In the Aude, 80 hectares of vegetation were destroyed by a fire. The firefighters are mobilized, Saturday, June 11. The fire has been fixed since Friday 10, but it could start again at any time. “Our job is to do this job of drowning the edge, to be sure that there is no more recovery”says Captain Jean-Baptiste Fromont, SDIS of Aude.
During the fire, 300 firefighters, nine planes and a helicopter were mobilized to fight the fire. Wind, high heat and drought increase the risk of fire tenfold. “We must all consider that we are already in the middle of summer. (…) That the fire risk is already high, and that we must be extra vigilant”, assures Colonel Jean-Luc Beccari, SDIS of Aude. The south of France is on alert. Towards Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), the sailors-firefighters are training. Canadairs and firefighters are thus mobilized to acquire automation.
