In such a case, “we must evacuate the sections more widely, we must interrupt the service and we must evacuate the stations” the time to dissipate the smoke, explained Philippe Déry, spokesperson for the STM.
Service was interrupted on the green line between Berri-UQAM and Angrignon stations, the orange line between Berri-UQAM and Plamondon, and on the blue line between Snowdon and Parc.
“A temporary shuttle service has been put in place on the surface to compensate for the service interruption,” said Mr. Déry. Forty buses were mobilized.
SPVM officers were also deployed at the Lionel-Groulx, Berri-UQAM and Parc stations to help evacuate crowds, said a spokesperson for the police department. An STM employee was bothered by the smoke, but no one else was injured.
Service gradually resumed on the orange and blue lines around 5 p.m. Initially scheduled for 4 p.m., the resumption of service has been postponed several times on the green line. It was scheduled for 6 p.m. at the latest news. “Our teams are on site and every effort is being made to ensure a return to service as quickly as possible,” said the STM on Twitter.
