A fire outbreak was detected in a workshop at the Framatome factory in Romans-sur-Isère, Wednesday September 21 around 4:25 p.m. in the Drôme, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. This is a sensitive nuclear site, the plant manufactures fuel assemblies for power plants. As required by procedure, the internal emergency plan was activated.

The fire is now extinguished, specifies the prefecture. There were no injuries and the factory said in a statement that this fire “has no impact on the safety of the installations.”

“As a precaution, the nearby buildings were made safe and the activities in progress in the building concerned immediately stopped. The employees present in the workshop were evacuated”, details Framatome. As required by protocol, samples are being taken to verify that there have been no radioactive fumes. 40 firefighters were mobilized.
