Limoges: fire at CHU leaves one dead and injured
– ()
On the night of Friday October 27 to Saturday October 28, a fire broke out in a patient’s room. Despite the rapid intervention of firefighters, the latter died, while two other people were more lightly injured.
Seen from the outside, the fire appears to have affected only one room. But in fact the entire service is now condemned because it is flooded with soot. It was to the latter that the Minister of Health first went. The fire started around 2:30 a.m. in a bedroom. Its occupant, aged 53, was seriously injured and died during the day. Two other patients were more lightly affected. The department doctor quickly arrived on the scene: “I saw my internet and my nurses pulling patients out of the smoke and then very quickly the firefighters took matters into their own hands.”
The hospital will be renovated
The Limoges University Hospital was inaugurated in the 1970s. It needs renovation. Aurélien Rousseau confirmed a significant envelope for work which will begin next year: “In a few weeks, we must sign a building permit for this operation which will cost more than 300 million euros.” An 89-year-old woman who was in palliative care in the department affected by the fire died during the night, but it is unknown whether or not her death is linked to the smoke.
