The family and moved colleagues wanted to attend this important ceremony. In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, some of them gathered at the fire station located on avenue Royale, in Château-Richer.
The volunteer firefighter and father of three lost his life on Saturday evening.
Martin Tremblay was part of the team of sappers who were called to intervene around 11:30 p.m., on rue des Silex, when a residence caught fire.
After a while, due to the power of the flames and the fragility of the building, the Boischatel / l’Ange-Gardien Fire Safety Service (SSI) requested the building to be evacuated.
“There was no longer anyone inside, but there was a collapse of a structure at the back of the building on one of our men”, explained the director of the fire department, Norman Huot.
The deceased was a volunteer firefighter in Boischatel, but also an employee of the City of Quebec.
In the fall, with a much less critical health situation, around 1,200 firefighters paid a final tribute to Pierre Lacroix, who died while rescuing two citizens in danger in the Lachine rapids on October 17.
Mayor Valérie Plante mentioned that Mr. Lacroix’s sacrifice will never be forgotten. Pierre Lacroix, 58, was married and the father of two children. He was one of four firefighters aboard a capsized boat.
