The calm after the storm. On the program for this 21st stage of the Giro126 kilometers and a relatively flat route in Rome await the runners still in the race, Sunday May 28th. After a first crossing of the finish line, the peloton will do six laps of the circuit in the streets of the “eternal city”, over a course of 13.6 km (wide roads, with some traffic dividers). The stage should not leave room for a breakaway and will probably end with a final sprint.
Except reversal of situation, the new pink jersey Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma)winner of the 20th stage at the end of an unbreathable time trial on Saturday, should retain his place as leader of the general classification at the end of the last stage of the Giro. Overtaken by events the day before, Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) ranks second, just ahead of Joao Almeida (UAE UAE). Author of a superb time, Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) meanwhile, secured the blue jersey for best climber and a provisional fifth place in the general classification.
