A film retracing the life of Joséphine Baker will be shot in 2023, reports Thursday, November 3 France Bleu Périgord. The artist and resistance fighter lived at the Château des Milandes in the Dordogne for more than thirty years. The director has already been chosen: it is the Franco-Cameroonian screenwriter Maïmouna Doucouré. The biopic will be produced by StudioCanal.

Filming should begin in 2023. The castle confirms having had contact with the production. The announcement made by the Canal+ production company comes almost a year after the artist entered the Hall of Fame on November 30, 2021.

The casting is not yet known including who will be chosen to play Josephine Baker. On the other hand, we know who will make the biopic. This is Maïmouna Doucouré. A Franco-Senegalese screenwriter who has already won the César for best short film for Mom(s) in 2017. She is also known for her first film cute released two years ago.

The children of Joséphine Baker, Jean-Claude and Brian Bouillon-Baker are associated with the project, as well as the rainbow tribe which brings together the twelve adopted children of Joséphine Baker. Quoted by StudioCanal in a press release, they say “honored to collaborate with Maïmouna Doucouré, whose film will retrace the incredible and humanistic destiny of our mother”.
