Filming will begin next year. StudioCanal is going to produce a “biopic”, a film biography tracing the life of Josephine Baker. The Canal + production company announces it almost a year later entry of the artist and resistant to the Pantheon

The film will trace the life of Josephine Baker from Saint-Louis in the United States to Paris, and perhaps to Périgord, to the Château des Milandes where she lived for more than thirty years. the castle confirms having had contact with production.
We do not yet know the casting, and especially who will play Josephine Baker. But we know the director of the film: Maïmouna Doucouré. A Franco-Senegalese screenwriter who has already won the César for best short film for Mom(s) in 2017. She is also known for her first film cute released two years ago.
A series on Josephine Baker also in preparation
The children of Josephine Baker, Jean-Claude and Brian Bouillon-Baker are associated with the project, as well as the rainbow tribe which brings together the twelve adopted children of Josephine Baker. Quoted by StudioCanal in a press release, they say “honored to collaborate with Maïmouna Doucouré, whose film will retrace the incredible and humanistic destiny of our mother”.
There have already been several films around the life of Josephine Baker, The Josephine Baker Story in 1991, The Other Josephine in 2009 co-written with children of the artist and resistant. A series is also in preparation for in the USA
titled “Resistance”. Joséphine Baker will be played there by Janelle Monáe, a singer and actress who played in particular in 2016 in the film Moonlight.
