According to the specialized site Deadlinethe producer Den Tolmor, to whom we owe the Netflix documentary Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom, is currently working on a film project very freely inspired by the life of the man who calls himself Wali. The script for the film — whose working title is The Good Fight — would be co-written by Nicholas Klein.

Wali is an ex-soldier of the Royal 22e Regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces which notably fought in Afghanistan and which volunteered with the Kurdish forces in its fight against the Islamic State. At the start of the Russian assault on Ukraine, he spent two months in the field, notably in the Donbass, to offer assistance to the forces of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Good Fight will tell the story of a US Navy veteran visiting Ukraine to see his son. Faced with the attack of the Russian army, he will decide to take up arms again, in particular in the hope of restoring the bridges with his son. Note that the family of the real Wali lives in the greater Montreal area…

“I want to present this story from a Western point of view,” Den Tolmor told Deadline. It doesn’t matter whether the character is Canadian or American. It will be the story of a man who has a different attitude and who finds himself embroiled in the conflict in Ukraine. »

The financial package for the project would already be partly completed. The producer hopes to start filming later this year.
