A fifth victory in a row for the Golden Knights

(Winnipeg) Jack Eichel broke a tie on a power play with 4:36 remaining and the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 on Thursday to earn their fifth straight victory to open season.

After Eichel’s goal, which made the score 4-3, Quebecer Nicolas Roy hit the target in an empty cage 63 seconds from the end of the match.

Jonathan Marchessault, Brett Howden and Alec Martinez also fooled Laurent Brossoit, who made 22 saves.

Logan Thompson blocked 36 pucks to win.

Alex Iafallo led the charge for the Jets with two goals. Cole Perfetti scored the other goal.

Perfetti could have completed a double, but it was robbed by Thompson. After a shot from the point by Brenden Dillon, Thompson returned it and the puck ended up on Perfetti’s stick. The goalkeeper, however, stretched his arm to make the save with the stick.

This duel was a replay of the first round of the playoffs last spring. The Golden Knights then triumphed in five games, en route to their first conquest of the Stanley Cup.
