It is the fifth vaccine against Covid-19 authorized on the French market. The High Authority for Health (HAS) approved, on Friday January 14, the American Novavax vaccine, based on classic technology. This vaccine and that of Janssen (already available for people over 55) can in certain cases be “a useful alternative” for people reluctant to be injected with messenger RNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, judges the HAS in its opinion.

Until now, France had four vaccines against the Covid-19 epidemic: the two messenger RNA vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna) and the two viral vectors (AstraZeneca and Janssen). “While the High Authority for Health recommends favoring mRNA vaccines for primary and booster vaccination, the epidemic context, characterized by a new wave of infections and the very strong progression of the Omicron variant, makes it essential to complete the coverage for the primary vaccination and to accelerate the recall campaign, including in people reluctant to face mRNA vaccines or those who have experienced a serious adverse event after a first injection”, specifies the HAS.
