The Legault government is coming back to Ottawa to reimburse the costs incurred for the services offered to asylum seekers. We know that the number of these asylum seekers has increased enormously in recent years (although, given the billions of humans living in unbearable situations, this number, by comparison, might ultimately seem very small! ). We also know that Quebec receives a disproportionate share. […] It would only be fair if the federal government compensated Quebec.
But Minister Jean-François Roberge goes completely off the rails when he says that this influx of asylum seekers could threaten our way of life! So let’s see! Even in their tens of thousands, are these people waiting for a status that we meet in the city imposing changes in “our” way of working, of having a family life, of eating, of living? have fun, sing, etc. ?
The minister said a few words too many – twisted minds would perhaps call it nonsense – which will not fail to give credence to many people’s suspicion that xenophobia is a weed that is still very much alive, buried in the hearts of “our » Quebecers. And if by chance population movements transform the way of life in Quebec, let’s remember that this is not new (nor always catastrophic), it has been happening since 1608 at least.
