This new platform has just been officially launched in the United States. Directly inspired by Twitter, it is developed by the Meta group, the parent company of Facebook, and will not be available immediately in Europe.

“Ten million people checked in in seven hours.” Just hours after Threads’ release in US app markets, Mark Zuckerberg announced the first results in a post on his official account on Wednesday, July 5. The boss of the Meta company welcomes the launch of his group’s new social network, strongly inspired by Twitter.
Its name means “son” in English and Threads is defined, on the Apple Store, as “Instagram’s text chat app”. Announced for months, it represents an alternative eagerly awaited by Twitter users, disappointed by the developments of the social network since Elon Musk took over.
No launch date in Europe
Threads therefore hopes to capitalize on the difficulties encountered by Twitter. But the Meta group must, for the moment, do without the European market: no launch date for the European Union has been announced because Meta is awaiting clarifications from Brussels. The new European regulation of digital markets, which came into force at the beginning of May, imposes specific rules on key digital companies, to limit their competitive practices.
In the 27 countries of the EU, it will therefore be necessary to wait before being able to create an account on Threads. The Instagram boss said to himself “worried about seeing our window close, because timing is important”. According to him, getting approval from Brussels to launch Threads in the EU would have taken several months anyway.
