The placing of the seal on the Constitution where the freedom to resort to abortion will now be mentioned is organized on Friday March 8, four days after a “historic” vote. The ceremony of sealing the revised Constitution will take place from noon in front of the Ministry of Justice, Place Vendôme, just before demonstrations planned throughout France to defend equality between women and men on March 8 .

Emmanuel Macron will be present and will give a speech, he who was unable to intervene during the vote in Congress in Versailles on Monday. It is a way for him to remind and undoubtedly also convince of his commitment to the cause of women.

Present your balance sheet

With this celebration of the inclusion of abortion in the constitution, Emmanuel Macron will also celebrate his record. The head of state wanted a ceremony open to the public because the moment is “historical”says the Élysée, but in his speech, to which all feminist associations were invited, the president also intends to recall what he has done: extension of 3919, creation of the offense of sexist contempt, index on gender equality in business or even automatic payment of alimony.

A “rich balance sheet”, assures the Élysée, but which sometimes contrasts with the words and positions of the president. In recent months there has been a presidential call for “demographic rearmament” and his support for Gérard Derpardieu, accused of rape and sexual assault. Last year, pension reform, accused of being anti-women, also tarnished the presidential record. Emmanuel Macron is regularly forced to resolve these ambiguities, he who has made equality between women and men the great cause of his two five-year terms. A subject where “at the same time” is sometimes impossible to handle.
