A head-on collision between a van and a heavy truck in Beauce killed three people, a father and two of his children.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed the death of a 4-year-old girl on Thursday after reporting on Wednesday that a 12-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man had been killed in the crash.
Emergency services were called to intervene Wednesday shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Route 112 in the small municipality of Saint-Frédéric, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The van was carrying a family of six – four children and two adults. The SQ says one of the occupants of the van remains in critical condition while the other two suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities also said none of the five people aboard the truck suffered any apparent injuries.
It is still unclear what led to the collision, but investigators have ruled out weather or road conditions.
According to initial findings, the 53-foot truck was traveling eastbound while the minivan was traveling westbound during the impact.
