A European summit on immigration was held in Granada (Spain). It brought together the leaders of the European Union and followed the migration crisis which shook the European Union in Lampedusa (Italy). “We must build a strategic partnership with African countries and discuss their way of developing with what they have already”, assures Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy. The 27 agreed on tougher reception conditions for migrants.
A significant wave of migration
The Canary Islands (Spain) are experiencing a significant wave of migration. 900 migrants of sub-Saharan origin arrived on the island. As for the island of Hel Hierro, it saw 1,600 migrants arrive on its land. “We are overwhelmed”recognizes David Cabrera, vice-president of the board of Hel Hierro.
A breakthrough by the far right is feared in Bavaria (Germany). Regional elections will take place on Sunday. The far-right party is credited with 14% of voting intentions. 13 million people are called to vote.
