European countries want to lower energy bills. This is the objective of the European summit which opened in Brussels (Belgium) on Thursday 20 October. But disagreements appear and clouds gather over the Franco-German couple. “In the absence of a common position, the two countries have decided to postpone their joint Council of Ministers. This decision was seen as a bad signal because at this very moment, the 27 are discussing energy and this is one of the subjects of discord between France and Germany”explains Julien Gasparutto, live from Brussels.

Beyond France and Germany, no one really agrees. “France and around fifteen countries are pushing for a cap on gas prices. Germany is against it. It fears that by imposing a maximum price on suppliers, they will stop their deliveries”details Julien Gasparutto.
