a dynamic village in the heart of the mountains

Saint Etienne de Baigorry, Lower Navarrese village bordering Saint Martin d’Arrossa, Irouléguy, Anhaux, Bidarray, Banca and Bastan (Spain). Village at the gates of the Aldudes valley in which life is good with Baigorriar who do a lot of things to make this place live.

Herriarena Restaurant

Attached to the trinquet of Saint Etienne de Baigorry, the Herriarena restaurant was taken over two years ago by Andoni Berhouet and his partner. They offer workers’ meals there every lunchtime with local products, but in a well-worked way thanks to the restaurant tour of France that Andoni was able to do, who takes care of the cooking part. Also in charge of the management of the trinquet, several amateur players come all week to bang against the wall. We can say that the restaurant of the trinquet Herriarena is typically the restaurant that one expects to find next to a trinquet in a village in the Basque Country.

Zaharrer Segi

It is the pelota club of Saint Etienne de Baigorry; created a little less than 100 years ago, it now has almost 300 members, men and women alike, which makes the Zaharrer Segi the most important pelota club in Iparralde. They organize two big events each year, the Herriarena trophy in October and the sheepdog competition in the summer.

History of Saint Etienne de Baigorry

If you go to Baigorry, you will see that there are plenty of things to see, starting with the famous stone bridge, but also the castle of Etxauz. Do not hesitate to go for a walk through the Mehaka interpretation center which organizes guided tours of the village.
