a duet with Gaëtan Roussel

This first title, “Les currents d’air”, is the preamble to an album composed with Pascal Obispo for 16 years. Its release is scheduled for the end of the year.

Forty years ago, Isabelle Adjani sang the hit Navy Sweater, written with Serge Gainsbourg. The actress took over the microphone and went out this Friday Draftsin duet with Gaëtan Roussel, leader of the group Louise Attaque, before a future album. Drafts is an electro title that makes you think of Nightcallsuccess on the soundtrack of the film Drive, signed by the musician Kavinsky. The voices of the singer and the actress are filtered by autotune.

“At first I was wondering and then finally becoming a daftpunker, it’s not bad!”, comments with humor on RTL the actress of Queen Margot. “For me in the song, we can find a climatic metaphor”young people “will have to learn to live in this new world in which we have entered in spite of ourselves”continues the actress-singer.

An album started 16 years ago

This second album by the actress, 40 years after the one developed with Serge Gainsbourg (called Isabelle Adjani then renamed Navy sweater), has been in the drawers since 2006, the result of a collaboration with Pascal Obispo who took it over in recent years. It’s a disc of duets with an incredible cast announced for the end of the year according to the newspaper The Parisian : Seal, Youssou N’Dour, Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran), David Sylvian (Japan), Peter Murphy (Bauhaus), Étienne Daho, Christophe (died in 2020), Daniel Darc (Taxi Girl, died in 2013), Philippe Pascal (Marquis de Sade, died in 2019), Akhenaton (IAM), Benjamin Biolay.

“It took seventeen years to finish it, exposed Pascal Obispo in the daily. I had Isabelle listen to it. She’s happy it sounds like she wanted. With a particular climate, a film music side, another electro, between Massive Attack, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Billie Eilish. It’s one of the best things I’ve done in my life in music.”

“It’s above all an adventure made in the carelessness of passing time (…) and in the freedom to do like that, without a contract. Just by desire to come to a studio, to record and to let go in music”explains Isabelle Adjani on RTL, defining herself as “an actress who sings”. Isabelle Adjani has never stayed very far from music since she had put down her voice in recent years for an album by the electro duo The Penelopes (pieces Meet me by the gates, The last goodbye).
