a drop in hotel reservations for the All Saints holidays in Alsace

While the All Saints holidays will begin this Friday evening, reservations are down in hotels and gites in Alsace for this first weekend of vacation. This is the consequence of the strikes in the refineries.

The situation seems to be improving, with the lifting of the strike at three TotalEnergies sites out of five.
Hoteliers hope rebound for the days to come.

All accommodation sectors affected

All sectors of accommodation have been affected, whether in cottages, in all types of hotels too, underlines the UMIH 67, the Union of Trades and Industries of the Hotel Industry. “This strike fell when people were booking. There were cancellations but also a big halt to requests, there were no more calls to book” explains Véronique Siegel, the president of the UMIH in Bas-Rhin.

Expected improvement for the rest of the holidays, with the last minutes and the good weather

At the hotel “Le Maréchal” in Colmar, the thirty rooms will not be full this weekend, the fault of cancellations. “There are families who travel by car who preferred not to come,” analyzes Alexandre Bomo, the commercial director.

With the end of the movement announced in several refineries, Alsatian professionals are betting on a return to normal very quickly. They are also waiting good weather and last minute reservations, to compensate for this announced loss.

“We need to work, after the difficult years of the Covid. These holidays and these autumn bridges are important for our cash flow. We still hope to have customers for the rest of the holidays,” adds Véronique Siegel.

At national level UMIH the Union of hotel trades and industries announces 60% cancellations for All Saints’ Day.
