Two competitors in the Bassin Annonéen rally in Ardèche died this Saturday early evening after going off the road, learned France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. The accident happened around 7 p.m. The causes of the accident remain unknown, according to race organizers, but the weather was particularly rainy on Saturday. An investigation is underway.

Originally from Savoie, pilot Nathanaël Degrange and his co-pilot Benoît Surot, aged around forty, missed a bend and found themselves about forty meters below the road. Their vehicle, a Renault Clio 3 RS, then caught fire.

Nathanaël Degrange had participated in 80 rallies since his debut in 2004, for 23 retirements. He had been collaborating with Benoît Surot since 2010. About forty firefighters intervened as well as the gendarmes before the race was stopped by decision of the rally management.
