There would be a solution never considered for this damned stadium which continues to drain our public funds. Simply abandon it.
We could preserve and maintain the tower, which is profitable and which was amply stabilized and secured by Lavalin during the 1980s (at great expense, in fact). Not only does it stand on its own, but it was also fortified to better support the roof of the stadium, according to Lavalin engineers at the time. No more roof, no more load to bear.
Then completely abandon the stadium and let it rot. Given its structure oriented towards the interior, it would decompose slowly without any danger to the outside… and it would cost nothing (or almost) to the population, except perhaps a waterproof fence surrounding it to prevent curious people or homeless people to go there.
Then, use the almost billion planned to “save” it to subsidize developers to build high-rise buildings all around this cursed structure, so that we never see it again, but without paying to demolish it!
For almost 50 years, there has been scandal after scandal concerning this white elephant, and I cannot believe that we are about to sink another billion (we will see) of public funds into it. Enough is enough !
