A dozen Ryanair flights, from or to Spain, were canceled on Monday August 8, and 111 others were delayed. At issue: strikes by Spanish flight personnel to demand an improvement in working conditions and the signing of a collective agreement. These mobilizations must last until January 2023, four days a week (Monday to Thursday).

The Irish company, which offers more than 650 connections with Spain, estimates that these work stoppages have had “minimal effect”according to a statement released on Monday.

A total of eight of the Irish low-cost carrier’s flights were canceled until 1 p.m. They were to leave from Barcelona airport or land there, according to the Union Syndicale Ouvrier (USO), which organized this strike with the Independent Union of Airline Crew (SITCPLA).

“Unfortunately, there is the 80% minimum service (mandatory) decreed by the Ministry of Transport”criticized Pau Ibarzábal, spokesperson for the USO union, who considers that this measure is “abusive” and “weakens (the) right to strike” Staff.

The employees in Spain of Ryanair had launched this strike on June 24, then extending it until July 28. Believing that the conflict is at an impasse, the unions have organized a third round of strikes, which began on Monday and must end on January 7, 2023.
