A double for Wheeler in a victory for the Rangers against the Kraken

Blake Wheeler scored twice as the New York Rangers beat the Seattle Kraken 5-2 on Tuesday.

Kaapo Kakko, Erik Gustafsson and Vincent Trocheck rounded out for the Rangers. Trocheck has 14 points, including six goals in his last nine games.

Accomplice of Trocheck’s net, Artemi Panarin collected a 60e not this season. He dominates his club in this regard.

Kappo was playing a second game after a 21-game absence due to a lower body injury.

Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox each had two assists for the Rangers, whose overall record against the Kraken is 5-0-1.

Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves, being foiled by Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann.

Seattle will conclude a six-game trip Thursday in Edmonton.

Capitals shut out Ducks, Bear’s first goal in a year

Ethan Bear scored his first goal in almost exactly a year, Darcy Kuemper blocked all 24 pucks he faced and the Washington Capitals defeated the Anaheim Ducks 2-0 on Tuesday.

Bear scored with 37.8 seconds left in the first period. He made the move in his ninth game with the Capitals after signing a contract with the club in December.

The defender, who was recovering from shoulder surgery, scored his last goal on January 15, 2023.

Kuemper’s shutout is his first of the season and his 31ste in 12 seasons in the National Hockey League. He didn’t see much action at the start of the game, being tested only three times in the first half.

Wearing a full face protector due to a broken nose, Tom Wilson sealed the victory for the Capitals in an empty cage. The team from the American capital has won three of its last five games.

John Gibson made 26 saves for the Ducks, who have lost eight of their last 10 games.

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Joel Edmundson battled against Ross Johnston, who stands six feet and five inches tall.

The Avalanche defeats the Senators 7-4

The Colorado Avalanche scored four unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 7-4 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Trailing 4-3 at the start of the third, the Avalanche wasted no time in tying the game. Miles Wood took advantage of a lack of effort from Vladimir Tarasenko to hit the target at 4:04.

Sam Malinski gave the Avalanche the lead on the power play. Logan O’Connor added an insurance goal and Devon Toews moved the strings in an empty cage.

Mikko Rantanen, with a double, and Jason Polin also found the back of the net for the Avalanche. It was Polin’s first goal in the National Hockey League. In his debut on the Bettman circuit, Justus Annunen made 36 saves.

Mads Sogaard played his first game this season for the Senators and stopped 27 pucks.

Ridly Greig scored two goals in the defeat. Drake Batherson and Jake Sanderson were the other scorers for the Senators.

Senators center Josh Norris missed a third straight game with a lower-body injury.

The Senators will now host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

The Stars have the upper hand over the Kings

Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski each scored an 18e goal this season on Tuesday, as the Dallas Stars prevailed 5-1 against the Los Angeles Kings.

Wyatt Johnston, Pavelski and Sam Steel scored in less than four minutes in the third period, bringing the score to the final count.

Hintz has three goals and six points in his last five games.

Evgenii Dadonov was the other scorer for the Stars, while Jake Oettinger stopped 31 shots. Only Drew Doughty beat him.

Author of 150 goals, Doughty is second in history among Kings defenders. At the top with 161 is Rob Blake, the club’s general manager.

Jason Robertson had a hand in two goals for Dallas, which is 4-1-0 through five games.

Cam Talbot made 23 saves. He is 0-5-3 in his last eight outings.
