A motorist received a fine after his dog was filmed speeding while driving his car in Slovakia, the Slovak police said on Facebook on Friday September 29. “The Senica police officers [à l’ouest du pays] couldn’t believe their eyes on the radar”says the police ironically.

Indeed, on the video surveillance camera, the photo of which was published on Facebook, we see a “brown hunting dog sitting obediently behind the wheel of a Škoda” speeding “instead of a photo of the driver”. The police denounce the driver’s attitude “irresponsible” who therefore let his dog be on his lap while he drove.

The amount of the fine is not known

The motorist, aged 31, defended himself to the police, assuring them that his dog “had suddenly jumped on his knees”. A version contradicted by the police who affirm in their press release that on the contrary they did not observe “no sudden movements” inside the vehicle on video surveillance images. The driver was fined for violating the Highway Code. We currently do not know the amount of the fine and whether the ticket takes into account the presence of the dog or only the excessive speed.

The Slovak police conclude their Facebook post by recalling the safety advice. She calls on motorists who travel with their pets to exercise extreme caution. “When transporting a dog, ensure the safety of the animal and all crew in the car”she says, before adding that “even a small animal can put your life and health in danger while driving”.
