The documentary “Laurent Garnier: Off the Record” was released on DVD on Friday December 10th. Back on the thirty-year career of the DJ, pioneer of techno in France.

Behind his turntables, Laurent Garnier makes the planet dance to techno. Music that he has helped popularize over the past thirty years. “I was there when the techno came. I just had the chance to be there at the right time, that’s all”, says artist DJ. For him it all began at the end of the 1980s, in London (United Kingdom). Laurent Garnier is a waiter at the French Embassy. At night he discovers electronic music, a passion that has become a profession: DJ.

But in France in the 1990s, techno had a bad reputation, associated with drugs and police raids. The documentary Laurent Garnier: Off the Record tells how the French DJ fights to change the way people look at his music. He now speaks in colleges to talk about his music. Exchanges captured by director Gabin Rivoire. He followed Laurent Garnier for two years to make this film. DJ’s intense life was put on hold during lockdowns. Today Laurent Garnier plans to stop definitively. His new project: compose for the cinema.
