It’s an incredible story that comes to us from Reunion Island. A calf, which had approached the divers a little too close, was saved by one of them. Narrative.
On Reunion Island, whales are very present this year. However, the regulations are strict, but some observations do not always go as planned. Indeed, at Cap La Houssaye (Reunion Island), divers observed a calf and its mother from a little too close. “We came across a mother and a calf who were extremely curious and who were, in fact, moving around a boat”says Xavier Malagié, instructor of a diving club.
Alas, the calf took the rostrum, that is to say the front part of the head, in the mileage. The animal, tangled in the rope, panicked and moved away, towing the boat for several meters. A diver then managed to join the mother and her calf to help them. He was able to free the calf from the rope. Everything ended well this time. The incident still raises questions about the contact of divers with whales.
