Longueuil firefighters were trying to control a fire declared in a disused motel on Tuesday evening.
Calls to 911 alerted to a fire that broke out shortly before 10 p.m. in this closed establishment located on Taschereau Boulevard.
A second alarm was triggered, mobilizing nearly 80 firefighters to fight the flames which quickly spread through much of the building.
No one was injured during the disaster, according to a spokesperson for the Longueuil agglomeration fire department.
This brushes aside the rumor that a person, possibly a homeless person, was arrested in the vicinity.
The extent of the damage to the Motel Oscar building is currently unknown, as is the cause of the fire, it was added.
