A requisition favorable to Eric Woerth. The prosecution announces, Monday, May 9, to have requested a dismissal for the former Minister of the Budget, in the judicial information opened in 2019 on a disputed tax boost granted in 2009 to Bernard Tapie. According to a press release, “the intentional element of the offense of concussion does not appear to be sufficiently characterized”.

Eric Woerth was indicted on June 30, 2021 by magistrates of the Court of Justice of the Republic, the only court empowered to prosecute and try ministers for offenses committed in the exercise of their functions, for having granted a tax benefit unfair to the businessman after the controversial arbitration of his conflict with Crédit Lyonnais.

“The minister had nothing to reproach himself for”

“It is a technical matter in which it obviously appeared that the minister had nothing to reproach himself for”commented Jean-Yves Le Borgne, Eric Woerth’s lawyer, to AFP. “It seems normal to me that the public prosecutor’s office considers that there are no grounds for criminal prosecution.” The defense of the former minister says he is now waiting for the decision of the investigating committee “with confidence”. It is to her that indeed belongs the final decision on a dismissal or a possible dismissal of Eric Woerth.
