The mayor of Nevers, in Nièvre, has decided to develop an airline between Dijon and his city to attract doctors to the hospital. A pragmatic remedy, but not really ecological.

Passengers in white coats, who would land every week on the deserted tarmac of Nevers (Nièvre). This aerial bridge with the Dijon University Hospital (Côte-d’Or) was designed to attract doctors. This extreme solution, envisaged by the town hall, would not displease the inhabitants. “It would be good, because there would be a real need”, says a woman. For years, the town has faced a crying lack of doctors, more than twenty would be absent from the hospital.

The trip from Dijon takes almost 3 hours by car, 2 hours by train, and only 35 minutes by plane. “Between letting people die because they don’t have the right care, and using an airplane, the choice is quickly made”, justifies Denis Thuriot, mayor (LREM) of Nevers. According to him, a plane rotation would cost 13,000 euros, for about fifteen seats, which is much cheaper than temporary specialists, paid between 1,500 and 3,000 euros a day. The profession welcomes the project rather favorably, even if some find it excessive.
