The Non-fungible youokay” (NFT) continue their breakthrough in the sports world. The group L’Equipe announced, Thursday, September 8 to AFP, that the Ballon d’Or winners will receive a “digital double” of their trophy for the 2022 edition in the form of NFT.
According to the French media group, this is a first for an award ceremony of this kind, all sectors combined, while the virtual trophy will be “unique in its metadata and permanently anchored on the blockchain”. As a reminder, NFT technology makes it possible to associate a digital object with an unforgeable certificate of authenticity guaranteeing official ownership to its sole holder.

The 66th Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 17. at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, during a ceremony broadcast in nearly 200 countries. In addition to the male Ballon d’Or and female Ballon d’Or, the Kopa Trophy (best hope), Yachine Trophy (best goalkeeper), Müller Trophy (top scorer) will also be awarded.
