A deputy mayor of Talant, in Côte d’Or, was suspended from his duties on Sunday March 17, for having gone to Russia this weekend as an international observer of the presidential election, France Bleu has learned Burgundy.
Cyril Gaucher, municipal councilor for Les Républicains (LR), was invited by the Russian authorities, while independent observers were banned from going to Russia. The elected official is a member of an association called “France Expatriation Russia”.
Contacted by France Bleu Bourgogne, the mayor of Talant affirms that he was not aware of his deputy’s trip. He believes that the election in Russia is marked by “the absence of real representatives of the opposition”and that this cannot be validated by a French elected official. “This personal initiative in no way represents the values held by all the elected officials of the municipal council”concludes the mayor of Talant.
