In Lesneven (Finistère), a stele in memory of Simone Veil was defaced.
A stele in memory of Simone Veil was defaced in Lesneven, in Finistère. The plaque was torn off, broken in two and thrown into the lawn on the night of Sunday November 19 to Monday November 20. “I find this a bit deplorable, shameful. It is an outrage to everything that Simone Veil represents”, confides Claudie Balcon, the mayor of Lesneven. Deported to Auschwitz (Poland), Simone Veil is also the symbol of the fight to legalize voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion).
The investigation was handed over to the federal police
Several monuments pay homage to him and some have already been targeted by acts of desecration, such as in Perros-Guirec (Côtes-d’Armor). So, in Lesneven, the mayor fears the reason for the damage. “Why do we say anti-Semite? Because the news says that today there are some everywhere in France. I don’t know, I don’t have an opinion on that. But in any case, It’s probably not a gratuitous act.”, notes Claudie Balcon. The investigation was handed over to the federal police. Another stele will soon be reinstalled.
