Measures to prevent young people aged 16 to 21 receiving child welfare (ASE) from being accommodated in hotels. They can now be sheltered in a so-called “youth” accommodation structure for a limited period, according to the decree published on Sunday February 18 in the Official Journal.

This accommodation will be possible in a structure such as“a holiday center or one falling under the declaration regime, but only in an emergency situation, and never for more than two months”, details the Ministry of Children, Youth and Families in a press release. The reception will also require “night and day surveillance within the structure”with a “trained professional”.

Overwhelmed reception structures

The decree follows the ban in force since February 1 on emergency accommodation in the hotel park. This decision is considered difficult to apply, because several of the reception structures set up by the departmental councils are overwhelmed.

Two other texts supplement this legislative system. They are supposed to facilitate the proposal of a sponsor or mentor for the child received by child welfare. For the Minister Delegate in charge of Children, Sarah El Haïry, “the publication of these three decrees marks an essential milestone in the application of the law of February 7, 2022 and for the safety and development of protected children and young adults”.
