Since the morning of Sunday May 5, an entire part of a district of Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) has been cordoned off by the police. Magistrates and experts are trying to understand how Nahel, 17, died on June 27, 2023. According to the first elements of the investigation, the young man was traveling on a bus lane. The police asked him to stop, but Nahel continued on his way.
Exceptional riots
A chase ensued, according to officials. At 8:15 a.m., he arrived at a square in Nanterre, where the police approached him. According to them, Nahel drove off again, then a shot was fired. Was it self-defense or a voluntary act? This is the whole point of reconstruction. The death of the young man caused exceptional riots throughout France. The perpetrator of the shooting, a brigadier, was indicted for intentional homicide. He has been free since November, but remains under judicial supervision.
