a death on the set following a brain tumour, Guillaume Canet at its worst!

Sad pictures published this Friday, February 3, 2023 on the Instagram account of the FAHIM association, named after this young boy who has now disappeared, suffering from a brain tumor. In the caption of these photos where we see him alongside Guillaume Canet and Gilles Lellouche on the set ofAsterix and Obelixreleased on 1er last February, this very sober text in homage to the young man: “On the occasion of the release of Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, we can now publish the photos of Fahim who visited Guillaume Canet and Gilles Lellouche during the filming in the summer of 2021. During this period he was very tired and in a lot of pain. The tumor had just re-developed. He will unfortunately leave us a few months later. He will therefore not have had the opportunity to see the result of this incredible film on the big screen. He would surely have adored him who was a super fan of Asterix and Obelix. Going from an airport setting to a battle in the middle of the oceans would have put a big smile on his face.”

As part of the launch of his latest feature film, director and actor Guillaume Canet was the privileged guest of Ophélie Meunier on January 28, 2023, in his Unexpected log on RTL. The opportunity for him to discuss his commitment to the FAHIM association led by Malek Bentouhami, father of Fahim, and to call for support from the latter which helps families and also to call for funding basic research on tumors brain affecting children. Very moved, Guillaume Canet wanted to recall his meeting and his friendship with this young man who dreamed of cinema…

“It’s unthinkable that a child is sick, it’s something totally unfair”

I am extremely touched by this meeting, five or six years ago… I was with the association This is happiness, with Omar Sy, I had come like that to meet sick children and there a young boy of about ten years old comes to see me and he says to me: ‘are you the star? I want to make movies.‘ It was Fahim.”, says the ex-companion of Marion Cotillard, very touched. He pursues : “Andbehind, he made movies with me, I took him to my movie sets, to We’ll end up together on The Great Bath, he played small roles, he did some extras, he was there and then he came to see me on Asterix and… it moves me to tell that because it was very painful to see him leave just after the shooting… very painful.”, he recalls. The director goes on to appeal for support and solidarity: “I am delighted to do what I can do at my small level, to be able to get people talking about this association, it is very important just to join because if they have a certain number of members it allows the association to become of public interest and therefore to have aid from the State, they do a crazy job because in fact they are two parents, Mimouna and Malek, and they have this knowledge, this experience of what it is than having a sick child so you have to support them (…) it’s unthinkable for a child to be sick, it’s something totally unfair, not normal.”, concludes, deeply moved, the director who came to defend his film but also a cause that is very close to his heart.
