A day of mobilization on bullying in schools in May

(Quebec) Prevention, intervention and sanctions will be the three axes that will be on the agenda during the day of mobilization on bullying and violence in schools, which will take place on May 24 in Quebec.

The holding of this day, the date of which was confirmed on Monday, was promised last fall by the Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, when he presented his Plan for the prevention of violence and intimidation in schools.

In a press release, the Ministry of Education specified that this day will be an opportunity “to hear from people who work with students on a daily basis in order to bring to life the plan to combat bullying and violence in schools “.

It will also make it possible to “take stock of situations of violence in schools, some of which have been publicized in the media in recent months”, we added.

According to the ministry, around a hundred people have been invited to participate in the event which will be held in Quebec. These include members of school service centers, school principals and parent committees.

Community organizations and union centers also received invitations, it was reported.

“Participants will have the opportunity to testify about what they experience on the ground, without filter, with colleagues from across Quebec and to collectively discuss the best interventions on the ground and their application,” underlined the Ministry of Education.

Last October, Mr. Drainville presented his Plan for the Prevention of Violence and Bullying in Schools in the wake of several violent events that had been reported in the media.

Broken down into four areas – document, train, support and raise awareness – the document was accompanied by an envelope of 30 million over five years.

In addition to the day of mobilization, the plan also provides for a week on violence prevention, which must take place during the year 2024-2025.
