A day in the great outdoors to teach teenagers how to better manage their emotions

“Jour de Confiance” is the story of a voluntary project set up thanks to the donation of a company. It was designed by Laurent Combalbert, a specialist in crisis negotiation and Stéphanie Furtos, two training experts. He proposes to organize workshops in nature to transmit self-confidence to adolescents aged 12 to 17.

For Violette, 12, it is imperative to know how to manage her emotions. Every day, she struggles not to “explode”, with her family or at school. She doesn’t always feel comfortable in a team. And because she is aware of it, she already practices breathing, so as not to be overwhelmed. From this day of workshops in the middle of nature, she expects advice, more in-depth support from thetrustedagency experts, and tips for feeling better on a daily basis.

Louis, rather introverted, finds it difficult to reach out to others. He carefully observes his entourage, misses nothing of the exchanges to gradually take his place in the group. He prefers caution before daring to start. As for Kim, she thinks above all about what can be useful to her, in the perspective of the next school year: taking a step back, thinking, not being impulsive.

Management of emotions, conflicts, teamwork, commitment: key themes illustrated through magic, games or scenarios. Malick Baulet, police commissioner and Europol expert (the European Agency specialized in the Repression of Crime) emphasized group behavior, listening and paying attention to other classmates. How feel empathy? What is assertiveness? A new vocabulary that these young teenagers quickly appropriated.

The idea of ​​training these young people was born after the confinement, when Laurent Combalbert’s team noticed the disarray of the parents and the malaise of the children. For now, the event is organized once a year, on July 9, and has been dubbed “Day of Trust”. But the demand is such that these workshops could be repeated several times a year. With other objectives, the fight against school bullying and cyberbullying, but also learning to recognize fake news.
