A dangerous individual arrested in Shawinigan with a sword, a sabre, a crossbow and a Taser gun

A dangerous man kept the police in suspense for long hours Tuesday in Shawinigan and was finally arrested in the afternoon in a dwelling where there were a sword, a saber, a crossbow and a pulse pistol.

Jason Joyal, 30, was wanted on five arrest warrants, including for threats and various breaches of conditions.

According to our information, it was police officers from the Sûreté du Québec who saw him on Tuesday night in a dwelling in downtown Shawinigan, in Mauricie.

Since the authorities suspected him of being in possession of a firearm, an imposing security perimeter was erected in the area to prevent innocent people from being injured.

Eight people had to be evacuated as a preventive measure.

In the end, the suspect was pinned down by members of the Sûreté du Québec’s tactical intervention group (GTI), without anyone being injured.

Jason Joyal, who has a very heavy criminal past, was taken to the police station for questioning.

He is expected to appear by videoconference on Wednesday and additional charges could be brought against him.

The weapons found in the apartment where he was holed up were seized by the police.
