A report published on Tuesday April 5 highlights the dysfunctions within many Ehpad Orpea such as the undernutrition of certain residents or over-occupied establishments

On Tuesday April 5, the public authorities published their report on acts of abuse in Ehpad Orpea. He points to several aspects, including the dehydration and malnutrition of certain residents. In particular, it is written that “the weights used by the cooks of Ehpad Orpea are significantly below the references for protein foods (up to 42% meat)”. Isabelle Schwartz is one of the complainants, she believes that her mother suffered from these deprivations. “I could not imagine that in an establishment that had this reputation, at these prices, could let people waste away in small rooms without taking care of them”she says.

Overcrowded establishments

The report also describes an opaque system where incident reports are not transmitted in time to health authorities. Families also feel left out. The survey also reports overcrowding in 25 Orpea establishments and that 13 to 18 million euros of public funds were saved between 2017 and 2020 when they should have been allocated to residents. Estates General will be held within Orpea, which promises a decentralization of its decisions.
