A rare intervention in Toulouse: firefighters set up a dam after an oil leak in the Canal du Midi this Friday, August 5, 2022. They intervened at the Béarnais lock, near the Twin Bridges.

The origin of the leak is a broken hose on a boat. The fuel spilled into the water in the canal. The VNFV (Voies Navigables de France) teams succeeded in absorbing the hydrocarbons using blotters. The firefighters carried out additional reconnaissance to the pumping station of Saint Jory.
A few traces of hydrocarbons having been discovered, it was decided to install a dam, with VNF to protect the catchment waters. This decision was taken in consultation with the Regional Health Agency (ARS). A group leader and two chemical risk specialists intervened.
