A cyclist in his forties was fatally hit by a tanker on Tuesday, late morning, east of downtown Montreal. The driver of the heavy vehicle, who continued on his way after this collision, is wanted by the police.
The cyclist was traveling northbound on Avenue Papineau when he fell at the intersection of this road link with Boulevard de Maisonneuve Est. At the same time, he was hit by a tank truck passing at this intersection. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene around 11:20 a.m.
The driver of the tank truck, for his part, continued his journey in the direction of the Jacques-Cartier bridge, obviously because he had not realized that this collision had occurred, the cyclist having probably been caught by the rear wheels of the truck. heavy vehicle. “It would not be an intentional hit and run,” notes a spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service, Sabrina Gauthier. “The tanker probably did not feel the collision,” she adds.
