The death sparked riots
According to the first elements of the investigation, on June 27, Nahel was traveling on a bus lane, then a chase began, according to officials. At 8:15 a.m., the police came up to him. According to them, Nahel restarts, a shot is fired. Was it self-defense or a voluntary act? This is the whole point of this reconstruction. The young man’s death caused riots of rare violence throughout France.
The brigadier who fired the shot is indicted for intentional homicide. After a few months in pre-trial detention, he is free but remains under judicial supervision.
