A cross-platform spring on the gaming front

Our new confined spring will be played this time on all platforms, without discrimination. From Sony’s PlayStation to Microsoft’s Xbox, via Nintendo Switch and even the PC, there will be something for everyone with highly anticipated releases, regardless of their favorite controller.

Will we start the season with a “bang” or a flop? We will find out soon enough on January 20 when Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Extraction. In this co-op experience, the franchise’s colorful soldiers Rainbow Six from Ubisoft will face an alien invasion. We don’t have high expectations, but we remain open to being impressed.

The next day, however, will release the long-awaited Elden Ring from FromSoftware, in which we place great hopes. The studio behind Dark Souls will try to adapt its gameplay hostile to an open world for the first time. The author of game of thrones, George RR Martin, signs the creation of this brand new universe.

Speaking of adaptation, the excellent series of 2D skateboard games OlliOlli will switch to 3D in OlliOlli World, February 8.

On February 17 will arrive the new fighting game from SNK, Tea King of Fighters XV. Inspired by the excellent Guilty Gear: Strive, the Japanese studio will use an online combat system “ roll back », new essential in times of pandemic.

And for lovers of roguelike ? Fighting game fans should find their account with Sifu, February 22. It plays a kung fu student who undertakes a vendetta against those who murdered his family. Thanks to a magic talisman, death will no longer be permanent, but it will cost us a few years of our life each time.

On the side of role-playing games, the die-hard service-game enthusiasts Destiny 2 will be able to discover the new expansion The Witch Queen February 22. It promises a new campaign and new weapons mixing science fiction and fantasy. We expect the same day Monark, a Japanese role-playing game that takes place in a high school, like a personas.

For those looking for excitement, the psychological thriller Martha Is Dead will arrive on February 24. And for another kind of excitement, on the asphalt this time, Codemasters will fight back at the Forza Horizon 5 from Microsoft with GRID: Legends February 25.

Console exclusives

Sony and Nintendo have not said their last word, however: some big exclusives are on the menu this spring.

After the huge success achieved by Horizon Zero Dawn (2017), no wonder Guerrilla Games and Sony wanted to continue Aloy’s adventure with Horizon Forbidden West. From February 18, on PlayStation 4 and 5, we will again embody the young huntress of the Nora tribe in her adventure westward to investigate a new source of danger that threatens the world.

And for the few who have managed to nab a PlayStation 5: the newest entry in the legendary racing simulator series Gran Turismo 7 will be released in March 2022.

On the Nintendo Switch side, we hold our breath for Pokemon Legends: Arceus, scheduled for January 28. The video game giant was trying to set the stage for a return to the Sinnoh region with the very awkward Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Last year. Hopefully this new open-world experience will break the mold.
