While France and Great Britain continue their exchanges concerning fishing licenses, some French fishermen without authorizations find themselves technically unemployed.
As of Tuesday, November 2, nearly 113 boats have received the fishing license allowing them to legally practice their activity in the British waters of Jersey. A license valid for one year and issued by the local government. Other fishermen are less fortunate, and have not obtained the precious sesame. For the latter, who make their last deliveries, it will be technical unemployment. “There, I cannot go fishing”, explains Julien Camus to one of his clients.
You must have fished at least 10 days per year in Jersey, between 2017 and 2020, in order to receive a fishing authorization in the area. Julien Camus owns a boat used to sailing in these waters, but in the absence of electronic traces, it is impossible to prove it. “We know where to find our way but they can’t know where we are”, he explains. The fisherman from Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) tries all possible remedies, even if it means sending the log books.
