A crisis exit protocol drafted by Corsican nationalists was submitted to the Minister of the Interior on Thursday March 17, franceinfo learned. This official document puts in writing the commitments of the State in recent days, while Gérald Darmanin ends this Friday his trip to the island to restore calm after the tensions triggered by the violent attack on Yvan Colonna in the prison of ‘Arles.
The protocol concerns the reconciliation of the two detainees, accomplices of Yvan Colonna in the assassination of the prefect Erignac, but also the search for the truth after his attack in prison and the start of the process towards autonomy for Corsica. A first work must take place by the end of the year.
The nationalists handed it over to the minister before he left to prevent him from leaving the island without a guarantee. The Corsican elected officials also want Gérald Darmanin to sign at the bottom of the sheet. But it is not sure that the minister accepts, according to his entourage. A close supporter of the presidential majority insists that it is a “Strong agreement which above all commits the State”. According to him, if Emmanuel Macron backs down on this project once re-elected, there will be violence in the street “ten times worse” than today.
