“A craze with the Rugby World Cup in France”

Heir to the sports lotto, the Parions sport brand presents itself, with more than 15 million uploads per year, as the historic French reference in sports betting.

Heir to the sports lotto, launched by Française des Jeux in 1985, Parions sport was initially only a point-of-sale service, before becoming, also in 2003, an online tool. Today, it is Parions sport online, which attracts the most bettors: “16 million bets per year, on more than 150,000 matches”explains Patrick Buffard, deputy general director of Française des Jeux, in particular in charge of sports betting.

Football far ahead

Parions sport ranks among the Top 5 European online betting players. Its activity represents 20% of that of Française des Jeux. 70% of bets concern football matches. For rugby, it’s around 10% per year. A little more at the moment, with “a craze for the World Cup in France, analyzes Patrick Buffard. For example, there were, over the first four weeks of competition, as many bets as in eight weeks, during the last World Cup in Japan.”

Fight against betting addiction

FDJ and Parions sport want to be responsible for the practice of their customers. In recent years, the issue of betting addiction has been at the heart of concerns. The brand devotes part of its budget to it. To remind, as a priority, that bets are prohibited for minors, and to highlight a “measured practice, which avoids losing your footing”.
